Bucharest Travel Guide

Known for its wide, tree-lined boulevards, glorious Belle Époque buildings and a reputation for the high life (which in the 1900s earned its nickname of “Little Paris”), Bucharest, Romania's largest city and capital, is today a bustling metropolis.

About Bucharest

Bucharest covers an area of 587 square miles (1521 square Km.) and is estimated to have a population of 2.6 million people, being the 6th largest city in the European Union. It is one of the main industrial centres and transportation hubs of Eastern Europe.

Antiques Galleries

Art galleries  A lot of antiques stores seem to have flourished in the historic quarter in particular on Lipscani and Covaci Streets (or maybe they were there for a long time but we didn’t notice them). Since we’re not into buying antiques we can’t say if the prices are high or not, you’ll have to judge for yourself. From what we saw you can find almost any type of artwork like paintings, sculptures, icons, etching, engraving, jewelry, tapestries, carpets etc. A nice place to visit, even if you don’t plan on buying something is Hanul cu Tei Complex, a former caravanserai built in 1833.

Nowadays a rectangular courtyard lined with antiques shops the place retains some of the 19th century atmosphere. The courtyard links the Lipscani and Blanari Streets. They also hold auctions there. Even if you walk away with nothing, this is still an interesting experience.
